New Lengths

As promised, this post features this denim skirt as my third fall, thrifted find. I had been seeing a lot of longer denim skirts ( I am assuming this was a '70's thing?) and I was inspired.  So I couldn't say no when I saw this one for $4. I had to have it taken in at the waist so it would sit up higher, at my natural waist, but totally worth it.  I was inspired to play up the differing lengths in this outfit: the midi length of the skirt and the knee high boots. Not two things that you would normally put together, but they kinda work - the boot's almost mimic tights. The all black felt chic, in contrast with the denim and I felt slightly Parisian - effortlessly cool :) I've also worn the skirt with warmer, tan boots and a striped blue + white sweater for a preppier version of this outfit. How would you guys rock this knee length denim skirt?

Graphic Suede

Hey guys! We've been lucky out here on the west coast of Canada - we have been having some really fabulous fall weather. When the conditions are right (mid day + direct sun) you can even get away with wearing a t-shirt like I did here.  So remember in my last blog post when I mentioned that I had found some great fall finds at the thriftstore? Yah, this skirt is one of them. I don't know if you can tell from the photos but it's suede - a huge trend for this season. I think the color really makes this piece stand out for me. Instead of a traditional neutral (black, camel) this shade let me take the suede in a different direction. I took a graphic approach with this particular look and I loved it! For the cooler weather I am thinking a black turtle neck and over-sized scarf if I want to play up another graphic look. If I am having a preppy day, I might pair it with a blue and white striped top and denim jacket. I love all the possibilities. Oh and did I mention it was only $17 and real suede? Well...now I did! Hahaha.

Fall Trends 2015: The 70's + Skinny Scarfs

It's a fashionista's favorite time of year, so I feel like starting this post with "I LOVE FALL" is a bit cliche, but....I do, guys, I do. I'm sure you've read a ton of other blogs extolling the virtues of this season of fashion, so I am gonna try and keep this short and sweet. I want to talk about just two points: textures and thrift-shopping. Ok, first texture. I was thinking about why we all looooooooooooove fall so much, and I came to the conclusion that my own personal love of it is all the textures. Leather, fur, wool, silk, tweed and (especially this fall) suede! The inspiration is endless. My second point, thrift-shopping, is a newer experience to me. My sister got me hooked this summer, and I got a large portion of my fall wardrobe at thrift-stores this year. Maybe it's the whole '70's trend thing, or maybe I have just been missing this hidden gem. My next three posts have been inspired by pieces I've picked up thrifting. The scarf and purse in this outfit are 2 of my finds: the purse was $15 and the scarf was only $4!  How late am I to this party? Do you guys thrift?

I fell for the pattern and the color palette of this scarf at first sight, but when I realized it was a skinny scarf, I knew it was fate's way of saying I needed to try this trend out. Bonus: it's real silk!

This purse was one of my first fall purchases. I loved the color, and the 70's shape. The embossed edge detailing feels really luxe.

After the summer, it's the pre-fall party...

Did anyone else's summer get crazy busy towards the end?? Mine was jam packed, and now I feel like I finally get to play catch up. I wore this look weeks ago, but never seemed to have the time to post it till now. A part of me is sad because I feel like the type of weather for this outfit has come and gone, at least where I live. It's perfect for that lovely in-between season when the line between summer and fall is blurry.  I must've read an article somewhere that mentioned the term 'pre-fall'. At first I wasn't sure if they were having a bit of self deprecating fun or being serious (c'mon...pre-fall? really?). But I will admit...it's all I can think of now looking at this outfit! I loved that I got one more wear out of this adorable dress before the end of summer. Although the weather for this outfit has come and gone, I think it still has some inspiration to take with us into fall. First, the leather jacket...a closet staple...what more can I say? Second, mixing pieces of different vibes to create interest; this is a style tip for all seasons! While I was busy, I still found time to do a bit of serious fall shopping (I always do, hehe) and I am feeling super inspired and can't wait for the next post! See you then!

Peek-a-boo.

This post was originally going to be all about this high slit tunic top and my struggle to style it (and I will get to that eventually) but after looking at these pictures for my blog post, all I want to talk about is my new hair! I LOVE IT! I've never felt quite this moved after a hair cut. This haircut makes me feel like a new person - a bolder, cooler person :p Heck, maybe it even inspired this bolder fashion choice I made. Right, so back to the top! Where to start...I wasn't quite sold on this high slit trend I had been seeing until I found this piece. Its clean lines and minimalist style appealed to me right away and I could picture layering it for the fall (at this late in the summer, pieces have to be justified by their ability to be worked into my fall wardrobe) but first I had to figure out how I'd wear it in summer. Cue the Pinterest research and this is where we ended up! I quite liked this outfit, especially the little peek of skin on the side. It felt sexy in an understated, not-tryin-too-hard kinda way...just like my hair! Have you guys ever got a haircut that changed your whole attitude about yourself??

Commander in Chic

I'm not gonna lie...I totally stole this title from a bottle of Sally Hansen nail polish! Haha. In my defense, I feel it suits this look perfectly. When I was trying to find links to similar vests for the first blog post that featured this vest, I was struggling with how to search it..."Google, hmmm, green vests with pockets?" I finally found similar looking pieces listed under 'military vests' on Polyvore. Huh! Learned something new! All I know for certain is I loved the utilitarian vibe of it mixed with the preppy, girly white dress. Oh, The dress. I spotted it on Oldnavy.ca at the beginning of summer. I knew I liked it right away but I didn't purchase it, I just kept going back to the site and looking at it (please tell me some of you weirdly stalk clothes online like that too, right?). Not even a few days after I initially spotted it, I noticed it had already sold out in my size. I panicked, and searched the closet store location with my size in stock and rushed out and grabbed it! It must have been fate, 'cause it was on sale too. The whole thing was really a rollercoaster of emotion :p I also want to shout out to my accessories in this post - I've been loving these round sunglasses lately and am totally thrilled with my backpack/purse find (I'll probably have to Google the proper description for that type of bag too). I think the bag will work out great into fall. Speaking of fall...it's that bitter sweet time of the year when the stores are starting to get their fall stock in, and you know the summer is almost over. I love a good season change in my wardrobe, but I'm sad to have to say goodbye to summer soon!
